Brookings Oregon is located on Hwy 101, just a few miles north of the California border.  With a population of around 5500, Brookings is the largest town on the extreme southern coast.  Largely a retirement village, the town boasts plenty of shopping, housing, as well as entertainment, for its' residents.  

Summer fairs, such as the Kite Festival in July, draw thousands of visitors each year.

Brookings has the warmest temperatures on the Oregon coast, with some summer days reaching as high as 85 degrees.  Yet most summer days average the high 70's, with only a small percentage of fog or rain days to mar the almost perfect sun.

Brookings boasts a very nice port, where you will find houseboats, recreational boats, and commercial vessels.  Along the dock some nice shops are located in a lovely little dockside center.  The ocean is just a stroll away, and the river flows here to the ocean.

Simple but very nice accommodations are available to the visitor, and campgrounds are everywhere.  Wonderful state parks allow beachcombing and hiking, or just sitting and enjoying the beauty of the area.  Reservations may be a good idea in any case, simply because it is not a tourist oriented area, and there are a limited supply of rooms.
