Charleston Oregon

Charleston Oregon is located at the mouth of Coos Bay, where it meets the ocean.   This adorable little village offers so much in the way of lovely weather, beautiful views of ocean and bay, it is like stepping back in time where life is more peaceful, where the seagulls fly overhead, the boats dock at the Harbor, the fishermen come back with their catch, and the ocean continues to crash against the shore.   You may not have heard of little Charleston, you might need a map to find it, but once you have been there you will return again.

Little Charleston offers a lot in a small area.   The Harbor is full and active, with picnic spots and views                     Nearby is the Southwest Oregon
Regional Airport, just 20 minutes away

You may not have heard of Charleston, but you have probably read about  the Cape Arago Lighthouse, and the adjoining Sunset Bay State Park, and Shore Acres State park.   This is an area of pristine views of forest, ocean, lighthouse (1866) and wildlife.

The Seafood has been written up in many magazines including Oregon Magazine.   Come to Charleston to fish, to enjoy seafood dining, and
to visit the lovely little harbor area.  After you have eaten, be sure to visit the parks that line the ocean at this lovely spot near Coos Bay and
North Bend Oregon.

Cape Arago Lighthouse
The original lighthouse at this spot was constructed in 1867.

Cape Arago State Park
This park once was private property owned by Louis Simpson, a historical figure who's family built sailing ships used for transport of lumber up and down the Pacific Coast.  There are numerous hiking trails that wander about these coastal headlands.  Three overlooks view such things as Simpson Reef (home of many sea lions and elephant seals), the Lighthouse, and the coast toward Bandon (the home of Bandon Dunes Golf Course).

Shore Acres State Park
In the midst of this naturally beautiful  area you will find the Shore Acres State Park, a lovely botanical garden with places to stroll and wander.   At Christmas this park is decorated with hundreds of lights!   What a beautiful place to visit.  These beautiful and natural areas have been written up in many magazines, including the feature in Oregon Coast Magazine.   These grounds were once part of the private Simpson Estate.  In addition to the botanical gardens, you will also find a whale watching point and some of the most spectacular (and photographed) wave action on the Pacific Coast.

Sunset Bay
This popular cove is often used for kayaking, swimming, and photography.

Sunset Bay Golf Course
A public golf course located next to Sunset Bay

Charleston Marina
The marina offers Charter fishing, restaurants, and is one of the last working fishing harbors on the Oregon coast.
